2/79 North Hill Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C15 origin, originally one room and 1½ storeys, extended to left
probably early C16, later C16 wing to rear, roof raised to 2 storeys and re-
windowed mid C19, few further alterations. Limestone rubble with stone dressings,
brick double Roman tiled roof with brick gable stack to left and ridge stack to
right of front door. Through passage, L-plan formed by rear wing. 2 storeys
and 3 windows, ground floor has 3-light C19 wooden casement to right and left,
off-centre stone pointed arched and chamfered doorway, wall projecting slightly to
left of door, (probably former external wall), first floor has three 6-pane sashes
with wider central pane; between floors to left, timber lintel remaining from
former attic window, to right of door, straight joint rising only to first floor
level, metal wall-tie to right of door, stonework different under eaves from
raising roof-level. Right return has line of former roof-level, blocked door
with timber lintel remaining, C19 2-light casement at first floor and timber
lintel remaining above from former window; rear wing to right has no windows,
2 storeys, small single storey lean-to at rear of wing. Rear has brick single
storey lean-to along rear concealing rear through-passage door, inner side of wing
has two 2-light casements at ground floor and 2 sashes at first floor as on front.
Interior: rear wing only seen, very deep-chamfered beam, room only about 2 metres
high, hooks in ceiling, round-arched door leading to front right room.
