Large house in landscape surround, now students hall of residence. 1868
by Alfred Waterhouse and built for himself. Red brick, diaper patterning
and with much cut brick moulding, plain and fish scale tile roof with
cresting, irregular large chimneys with offset heads, one gabled semi-
dormer right of centre, one half hipped semi-dormer left of centre.
High Victorian Gothic style.
2 storeys and attics. Irregular fenestration; all sashes without glazing
bars. Main features of entrance front. 3 gable projections one to left
which is also gabled on re-entry, one centre at right, one in centre
with stained and traceried window to staircase; enclosed gabled entrance
porch with buttresses and moulded arch to right of staircase projection.
Garden front:- similar style with gable to left, 4 bays lean to verandah
and large conservatory to right. Interior: 3-flight staircase in entrance
hall with arched balusters, carved panels and moulded handrail; stained glass stair window. Large hooded fireplace on clustered columns with carved capitals in hall. Attic stairs with elaborate balustrade and arcade to landing. Panelled principal ground floor rooms with chimneypieces. Panelled first floor chamber with coved ceiling. Billiard room with lantern light. Glazed conservatory.
