Terrace, now various commercial premises. Mid C19 of several builds. Ashlar
magnesian limestone facade, Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 9 bays. Basket-
arched carriage entrance to bay 6 otherwise all of ground floor has flat-
roofed shop-front projections. 1st floor: projecting sills and flat arches
to sashes with glazing bars (bays 1-4 and 9) and to 16-pane sashes (bays 5-
8). 2nd floor: matching openings with unequally-hung sashes of 9 panes (bays
1-4 and 9) and of 12 panes (bays 5-8). Fascia board with paired wooden
gutter brackets. Ashlar copings between bays 2 and 3, 4 and 5 and to right
end. Drop in roof line to right of bay 5. Rendered ridge stack between bays
2 and 3; sandstone ridge stacks between bays 4 and 5, 5 and 6, 7 and 8. Left
return: round-arched doorway; round-arched stair window to lst-floor left.
Built as the Victoria Hotel and known as Victoria Buildings by 1850 (Scott,
p.17).
