Large Gothic Revival church. 1862-5 by James Mallinson. Pitch-faced
stone with ashlar dressings. Steeply pitched slate roofs. 5-bay
nave with lean-to buttressed aisles. South porch. Large north and
south transepts. Lower 2-bay chancel Chapel and vestry on north side.
Square south-west 4-tier tower with splay-footed ashlar spire. The
tower is divided by drip mouldings and has angle buttresses and stair
tower on south-west corner. 3-light west window with plate tracery.
2-light bell-chamber openings with louvres and stilted arched heads on
colonnettes and with single circle in head. The openings are set in
a shallow recess with corbel-table over supporting base of spire.
Lucarnes in spire have 2-light slender openings. Smaller lucarnes
at higher level. Clerestory windows consist of a 6-foiled circle in
a triangular surround. Broad, 3-light aisle windows with 6-foiled
circle in head. 2-light chancel windows and large 4-light transept
windows, all with foiled circles in head. Large 5-light east window
with large 5-foiled circle. The porch has two colonnettes with
acanthus capitals.
