Farmbuilding immediately to north of Guilthwaite Hall Farmhouse

Combination farmbuilding perhaps incorporating some domestic accommodation;
now used as store. Mid C17. Coursed, dressed, red sandstone; Welsh slate
roof. 2 storeys with loft. 5 bays (internal). Chamfered plinth, large
ashlar quoins. Double-chamfered window surrounds. Doorway to left has
monolithic jambs and deep lintel; flanking single-light windows with casements.
Continuous dripmould drops down to right and continues over altered 2-light
window and doorway in bonded surround with keyed 3-piece lintel. C20 casement
to far right in altered surround. External stone steps to lst-floor doorway
to right end bay, dripmould rises over lintel and covers single-light window
to-right. Near-central, lst-floor hatch formerly of 2-lights, similar opening
to its left. Shaped kneelers and roll-moulded gable copings with finial bases
at kneelers and apex. Rear: several original windows now blocked and within
attached outbuildings (not of special interest). Left return: external steps
to lst-floor door; 2-light mullioned window to loft with hoodmould. Right
return: doorway to ground-floor left, single-light window to its right with
dripmould; lst-floor dripmould beneath 2 single-light openings with dripstones.
Interior: corbelled fireplace in lst-floor room to right, old stud partitions
and balustrade with lath and plaster infill. Plaster floor to loft over other
bays. 4 principal-rafter trusses. A well-preserved building of a rare type in
this region.
