Country house. Early C18 with probable C17 origins and early C19
alterations and additions. Magnesian limestone and sandstone ashlar, that
to centre block with vertical and horizontal tooling, and Welsh slate roof.
Central early C18 range with early C19 canted bays and rear wings to sides
and further kitchen wing to rear left. Central staircase plan. 2 storeys
with attic to central range and 7 bays between single canted bay wings.
2 long steps to early C19 single storey Doric portico with Regency wrought-
iron trellis decorated with anthemion motifs to first floor between outer
bays. Central C20 double doors. Sashes with glazing bars and ashlar aprons
throughtout except for 3 sets of C20 double doors to first floor giving
access to balcony, that to centre has eared architrave otherwise plain
architraves. Moulded first floor band to end bays. Cornice and parapet,
raised to centre range concealing flat hipped roof and 3 roof dormers.
Canted nipped roofs to bays. Central and end stacks. Interior: early C18
cantilevered staircase with 2 turned balusters per tread and ramped handrail
in panelled staircase hall with fluted Roman Ionic pilasters, and moulded
cornice. Similar scheme to central first floor room. 15-pane staircase
window with gothick glazing in the head. flight-hand ground floor room has
early C19 Ionic portico and acanthus moulded cornice. Shutters to some
windows. Some 6-fielded panel doors.
