Churchyard cross. Early C9 shaft on later base. Sandstone. 2-tier
chamfered octagonal base. Shaft has 3 rows of carved figures set in
arcading, a band between each row. Top of shaft is fluted. Same type as
those at Wolverhampton and Dewsbury, developed from such early Christian
Eastern Mediterranean monuments as the Ciboricum of Saint Marks, Venice
(Pevsner, N Yorkshire, p 241).
