Cross, base medieval, cross 1873, of red sandstone. The octagonal
base, on sloping ground, has 7 steps to High Street and 5 and 4 on its
sides to Church Street. Octagonal monument, on 2 stone steps in C14
style, has a gabled niche to each side and a crocketed spire
surmounted by a cross. Stiff-leaf ornament; cusped niche arches,
mouchettes and quatrefoils. Inscribed IN MEMORY OF THE REVEREND
AUGUSTUS THURLOW M.A. CHANCELLOR OF THE DIOCESE OF CHESTER AND FOR 33
YEARS RECTOR OF THE UPPER MEDIETY OF MALPAS (which had 2 Rectors).
BORN JULY 3rd 1802, DIED JULY 5th 1873: ERECTED BY HIS CHILDREN.
