Model Farm. Late 1850s for the Smyth Estate of Long Ashton. Rubble with
freestone dressings and slate roofs. Consists of farmhouse and rear service
wings at the south end; to the rear the stock yard is enclosed by cart-sheds,
coach-house and stables with workshops to the east, a barn to the west, and
shelter sheds to the north which are segmental on plan. All in a plain Gothic
style. Farmhouse. 2 storeys with 2 asymmetrical gabled bays, the west one
is set back with a C20 porch at the front; 2- and 3-light casement windows
with chamfered lintels and heads and under relieving-arches; between the
2 gables is a 2 stage tower with a broached pyramidal roof on overhanging
eaves, single light windows. Two 4-bay service wings to rear of house.
East Range. Single storey and attics in gables, plank loft doors in pointed
surrounds; 6 bays with 3 doorways and a casement window, all in pointed
surrounds; cart entry doors at left; lower single storey workshop attached at
far left; south gable end has 3 arch-headed windows. West Range. Barn has
5 cross-loop windows and a central square headed entry. Granary at right with
cart sheds below and upper loft doors concealed behind later lean-to; south
gable end has casement windows under pointed heads. North Range. Shelter
sheds. 9 bays, the outer ones have segmental headed pedestrian doorways;
wide segmental headed entries to bays 2 and 3 and 7 and 8; bays 4 to 6 have
C20 fenestration and doors.
