7/137 Stable Block and Coach House

Stables and coach-house, now adapted as college buildings. C15 - C16 centre,
extended with addition of flanking wings in late C17, late C18 - C19 coach-
house at north-west, converted 1950s. Rubble with freestone and cast stone
dressings and quoins, stone slate roof with coped raised verges, ashlar stacks.
Central, wide, chamfered and round-headed archway flanked by square buttresses:
inner archway with wave moulded surround and heavy studded doors and wicket
door: 3-light casement window over the archway, in hollow chamfered and
segmental headed surrounds and under a dripmould and relieving arches. To
each side of the archway are 5 bay ranges terminating in slightly advanced end
pavilions which are surmounted by gables. 2-light casement windows in ovolo
moulded surrounds and under straight dripmoulds; rose tracery windows in
gables. Studded panelled doors to the centres of the pavilions, under round
heads and fanlights with bars and acorn finials. Projecting from the north
pavilion is a 3 bay range of coach-houses with square headed entries: at the
end is set forward, gabled wing with a semi-circular headed entry. 2 bay
addition projects from south pavilion.
