Manor house. Dated 1620 (on porch) with mid C17 addition and C20 restoration.
Colourwashed roughcast with stone openings, copings and double Roman tile roof to
main range, pantiles to rear wings. U-shaped plan formed by 1620 L-shaped house
with mid C17 south-west rear addition. Principal east front of 2 storeys, 4 bays
with 3-light ovolo-moulded mullions with double ribbed faces and small leaded
panes. 2nd window on ground floor to left-hand is a C20 insertion. Central
gabled porch with moulded Tudor-arched entrance and similar inner doorway with
2-leaf plank door. 4 end rendered stacks. South facade has cross-mullion
fenestration. Later 2-storey addition to left-hand of rear courtyard.
Interior. Ground floor left-hand room has C17 imported panelling and plasterwork
frieze of vine sprays and animal and figure panels; deeply chamfered beams.
Ground floor right-hand room has further C17 panelling and a Tudor-arched
fireplace. Inglenook fireplace in ground floor north-east room. The manor was
built by the Young family. (R. Cooke, West Country Houses, 1957).
