Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17, with later alterations. Rubble, rendered,
treble Roman tiled roof with 3 rows of stone slates at eaves at front, gable
stacks with C20 diagonal chimneys. U-plan, through passage. 2 storeys and
3 windows, 1st floor has 2-light casements with leaded lights and drip mould,
ground floor has 2 sashes of 4 panes, with dripmoulds, 2nd bay from left has
gabled porch, plank door with glass insertion in chamfered frame, C20 door,
window and conservatory to right; south east elevation has C20 window at ground
floor, 1st floor has small window in chamfered frame with iron stanchion, north
west elevation has 1st floor and attic casement, each of 2 lights with leaded
lights, loop catches and drip mould, ground floor of rear wing has 3-light
casement with ovolo mullions, iron stanchions and decorative catches. Rear has
2 wings of 1½ storeys, infilled between (formerly covered only) and single
storey extensions of wings; varied windows including small 2-light window with
chamfered mullion and frame and iron stanchions, similar larger 2-light window
to left, wing to north has 2-light window with iron stanchions and ovolo mullion,
C20 roof lights. Interior: date 1830 scratched on rear window, each wing has
plank door with studs, plank and batten doors to through passage, deep
chamfered beams, front left room has chamfered and stopped lintel to fireplace,
curved oven recess to right and spice cupboard to left with butterfly hinges and
carved door, moulded frame, front right room has 2 sections of panelling,
possibly from Alveston old Church of St. Helen (q.v.); 1st floor has door frame
with scalloped lintel and moulded and stopped jambs, front room has panelling
re-set as cupboard with cocks-head hinges; shutters to attic window at south
end.
