Piers with surmounting statues, gates and screen. Italian baroque, imported
early C20. Limestone and wrought iron. About 20 metres in length. Central
pair of gate piers of square plan, carved on south face with grotesque masks and
twined ribbons, cornice and plinth, each surmounted by statue of putto with
drapery carrying a cornucopia. Wrought iron gates. 5 similar piers to each
side surmounted by bowl of fruit, all in reconstituted limestone except piers to
right and left, to right surmounted by fluted urn. Wrought iron screen between
each pier.
