House. c1720 and late C18. Red brick with some burnt bricks to the end
walls and tuck pointed mortar courses. Rear wall is framed and rendered and
some framing of earlier house exists in part of the front wall but is now
concealed. Parapetted tiled roof with tumbled end parapets on kneelers and
flush end stacks. Originally L-plan. Two storeys and attic. Two dormers on
the front. Moulded wood main cornice above range of five, twelve pane
recessed hung sashes late C18-early C19. Central doorway has doorcase of
fluted pilasters with entablature and dentilled frieze. Bivalve door of six
raised and fielded and beaded panels with cast iron radial glazing bars to
transome light. Blocked back stairlight window opening in east wall.
Interior late C18 fireplaces to two ground floor rooms with flanking niches
in arched heads and shaped shelving. The niches in the room to the south
east are early C18 and have raised key blocks with arches. There are two
more C18 fireplaces at first floor. Two flight return staircase with winders
rising through two storeys from back of hall. Stick balusters and octagonal
stem newel post supporting roll rail with wreathed foot. Bull nose step
below, cornice tread ends and profiled cheek pieces.
