TL 4052 HASLINGFIELD THE KNAP

Cottage. Mid-late C17, early C18, and enlarged late C20. Timber-framed,
rendered. Originally thatched, now pantiled, and half hipped. Ridge stack,
with upper courses rebuilt and early C18 red brick end stack. Three bay,
lobby entry plan. One storey and attics. Front elevation has one dormer and
three windows, all with mid C20 fenestration. Present main doorway in C20
timber porch. Original lobby entry doorway now within wing added late C20.
Inside. Timber-framing exposed. Clasped side purlin roof with some inserted
collars. One ground floor room may have been open to the roof and a floor
inserted in C18 when red brick hearth and stack built. Ceiling joists in
this end are narrower. Inglenook hearth. Stop chamfered main beam to centre
room but generally timbers of slender scantling.
