House, formerly with an attached forge to south-west. Early and late C16,
rebuilt and extended late C17. Timber-framed and plastered; thatched roofs
with red pantiled roof to right hand partly enclosing the gable end stack and
formerly part of the roof to the forge. End stack to cross wing and stack to
right hand of main range. Two storeys and one storey and attic; main range
with cross passage to left hand and cross wing of two timber-framed bays.
Lower extension to right hand of one timber-framed bay added in late C17 when
walls of main range were raised and it was reroofed, stacks were inserted and
floors to the hall and cross passage; a staircase in a rear outshut beside
the main stack was resited in the C19 when perhaps the building was
subdivided into three dwellings. Main elevation: two C18 casement windows
with leaded lights and one C20 replacement with glazing bars, boarded door in
position of cross passage; one first floor horizontal sliding sash window
and one casement window , one small horizontal sliding sash window in eyebrow
dormer. Interior: Three late C17 red brick hearths, exposed timber-frame
showing the three building periods, stop-chamfered floor frames.
