17/69 The Priory

GV II

House, early C16. Timber framed and plastered, cased in C19
gault brick and painted. Plain tile roofs, hipped with gablet
to north. Two ridge stacks. Two storeys; T-plan. Service
wing to north, first floor hall to main range with ground floor
three unit plan, jettied to street. South facade; three
sixteen-paned first floor hung sash windows, and two similar
ground floor windows in cambered brick arches flanking
six-panelled door, one large three-light window in segmental
brick arch to right hand. East facade, painted brick up to
cased jetty with rough cast render to timer-frame at first
floor, one hung sash window and one horizontal sliding sash
window. Service range has two first floor sixteen-paned hung
sash windows and one blind window in chimney bay with similar
blind window and larger sixteen-paned hung sash window at ground
floor in cambered brick arches. Panelled entrance door to left
hand in original cross passage position. Interior. Exposed,
substantial timber frame with wide internal tension braces in
each wall bay at first floor. Side purlin roofs. Main range
with arched braced tie beams. Floor frames with stop-chamfered
beams, and joists to parlour. Two hearths in central chimney
bay of main range with partly demolished brick stair. Large
kitchen hearth with cross passage to north and evidence of plank
and muntin partition with entrances to stair and butteries.
