13/78 Gate House

GV II


Cottage. Late C17, or early C18. Timber frame of pine,
plastered with applied timber frame decoration. Early C18 brick
and gault brick. Thatched roof. One storey and attic, three
unit plan extended to the east with original lobby entry
blocked, main entrance in rear elevation. Three ground floor,
three- and two-light horizontal sliding sash windows, one
horizontal sliding sash dormer window. Brick gable with tumbled
parapet gable, red brick ridge stack. Interior, exposed pine
floor frames with stop-chamfered joists. Pine roof with ridge
piece. Straight braces to timber frame 'qv' The Cottage, Horse
and Gate Street. Cottage originally the Horse and Gate Inn.
