STRETHAM

House. 1770. Local narrow red and gault brick, English bond on plinth with
steeply pitched roof, thatched and boxed with corrugated iron, and patterned
red brick tumbling to gable end parapets. End stacks with string courses.
Single range plan with C19 additions at the rear. Two storeys and attic. Two
gable dormers. Three first floor windows under original red brick header
arches. The centre window is of three lights and has small pane metal
casements, C18-C19. Band between storeys. At ground floor three original
window arches having stilted brickwork and alternating patterned red and gault
brick. An original doorway has a red brick header elliptical arch. The
ground floor windows are modern. At first floor an inset panel having three
red bricks laid on edge and incised with the initials W.R.E. and M.R. and the
date 1770. The west gable end has red brick diaper pattern work as well as
the red brick tumbling, and iron ties in the form of initials W.R.
