2/23 Stonea Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C17 or early C18. Local gault brick and reused medieval Barnack lime-
stone, limestone rubble and clunch. Plain tile roofs. Two storeys and attics with
single storey rear kitchen and bakehouse wing. Tumbled brick parapet gables
with end stacks; large square stack to kitchen wing. Projecting brick eaves
cornice, brick bands between floors and plinth with shallow buttresses. Four first
floor boxed four-paned hung sash windows with segmental brick arches and two similar
ground floor windows to right hand of central C20 door, one larger hung sash window
with vertical glazing bars to left hand. Gabled dormer windows. Plaque in west gable
faintly inscribed with J C ? and fire insurance plaque over original door to rear
wing. Interior: Mainly C19 details and inserted attic floor to kitchen. Some two-
panelled C18 doors and panelling; two sealed hearths.
