House. C16 and later, timber framed now faced with painted stucco,
probably on brick. Old tile roof;2 brick stacks in centre and projecting
chimney at S.W. end. Hall and cross wing plan with stair projection
in angle, later additions at N.E. end (kitchens). N.W. (entrance) front
has modern open porch in centre, 2 C19 casements to left, 1 to right
3 1st floor casements, 1 modern dormer. Gabled staircase projection to
RH with 3 light casement to ground floor, 2-light attic window. Gable
of crosswing set back to RH, 2-light casement to ground floor, 3-light
to 1st floor, tile hung gable. Both gables have cast iron plates
with Rothschild motto. Garden front has gabled crosswing to LH,
central open oak framed porch, 2 gabled semi-dormers, two 4-light
casements, French doors to RH, and gabled kitchen wing to far RH,
single storey modern addition beyond. Interior. doors on each front lead to
cross passage. Heavy braced cambered tiebeam with arch braced collar
of formerly open central truss visible on 1st floor. Remains of moulded post
on N.W. side of this truss has solid moulded brace to 1st floor beam;
large chimney stack between cross passage and central truss with
inglenook in central ground floor room. Re-used C17 run-through
panelling in this room and 1st floor S. room in crosswing.
