7/21 The Bell Public House

House, now a public house. C16, altered in C17 and C20. Timber framed,
plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 2 bays facing N, and 3-bay
crosswing at right end, with internal stack at the junction. C17 rear extension
to rear of crosswing with end stack, and C20 single-storey extension beyond.
Main range and crosswing of 2 storeys, rear extension of one storey with attics.
2-window range of C20 casements. 2 C20 half-glazed doors. Crosswing jettied
at front with 2 plain brackets. Jowled posts, heavy studding. The main range
has chamfered axial beams, chamfered joists of horizontal section with step
stops, straight tension braces trenched inside the studs, and crownpost roof
with straight axial braces. The crosswing has chamfered transverse beams with
lamb's tongue stops, clasped purlin roof, and blocked frieze windows at the
front. The rear extension has a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops,
and plain joists of vertical section. 2 large wood-burning hearths. RCHM 6.
