Including No 1 Chapel Street it was originally a single C16 timber-framed and plastered house with cross wings at the north and south ends to which an extension was added in the C17 (No 42). The fenestration is of the C18 or early C19, mainly double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The Chequers Inn has 2 splayed bays on the ground storey and No 1 Chapel Street has a C20 shop front. Roofs tiled. (RCHM 19 and 20).
Nos 38 to 42 (even). Church of St Mary Magdalen. No 46 and Nos 57 to 63 (odd) with Nos 1 to 13 (odd) Chapel Street form a group.
