7/14 Brick Building, Tanhouse Farm

Former tannery, now cartshed and store. C18, red brick, Flemish
bond, rubble stone plinth to one side, weatherboarded gables, tiled
roof. Single, long ground floor room with loft over, left hand
gable has door on right, with later doorway to loft cut in centre:
boarding to gable covers a queen-strut truss with wattle and daub
infill. Front to road has 1 shuttered window, with on right 2
segmental headed openings with brick-on-edge voussoirs, both later
blocked with rubble stone. Plain string course at first floor
level, with above a window. Right-hand gable 2 cart openings made
Later, first floor and gable weatherboarded. Internally one long
room with heavy cross beams; roof trusses not seen. Said to have
been the tannery giving name to farm; left-hand end has been used
for cider making, but mill and press since removed. Included for group
value.
