Obelisk, built as observation point. 1850. Sandstone ashlar. Very tall
slender obelisk, with 3 openings on south face, stands on high panelled
base with cornice; steps down to small opening at foot on north side. South
face inscribed with latitude, longitude, angle of dip and height above sea
level. Latin inscription on base: W I W/ASTRONOMIAE/DICAVIT/MDCCCL.
