Manor house. Late c16-early C17 of two builds; with late C20 additions to rear.
Sandstone rubble; pantiled roof with double course of sandstone flags at eaves;
stone stacks. 2-storey, 2-bay right section with slightly later and taller
2-storey, 3-bay section attached to left.
Right section has roughly-dressed quoins to right. Part-glazed 6-panel door
with chamfered jambs under hoodmould; 3-light flat-faced mullioned window to
right has 6-pane lights and central opening casement; first floor has similar
2-light window and 3-light window to right. SteepLy-pitched roof has slightly-
swept eaves; corniced right gable stack. Rebuilt right gable end.
Left section has low plinth, and alternate quoins to left. Windows have
chamfered mullions and hoodmoulds. Central 2-light window with fixed 6-pane
lights; similar flanking 3-light windows have central opening casements.
Identical fenestration to first floor. Steeply-pitched roof has slightly-swept
eaves; stepped and corniced left gable stack, rebuilt right gable stack. Round
window in chamfered surround set high in left gable end. Rear has central 2-
storey stair wing with tumbled-in brick gable.
Interior: 3-flight closed-well stone stair to rear; living room has cambered
bressumer, 4 transverse chamfered ceiling beams and some original joists.
Left section has pair of upper crucks part-exposed in front bedroom. Right
section has 3 principal-rafter trusses with upper and lower collars and some
re-used original timber.
C20 additions to rear and detached farmbuildings to rear not of special interest.
