Byre and cartshed, now byre. Probably mid C17 with alterations. Small stone
rubble with large quoins and some throughstones. Lakeland slate roof with
stone ridge. One storey, 3 bays. West elevation shows wide wood doorway at
right with recessed flat Tudor-arched head under wood lintel; flanking
triangular vent holes. Left bay has wagon entrance, now blocked. High-
pitched roof with 2 blocked inserted skylights. Interior shows thick walls,
reducing in thickness to eaves. 2 pairs of angled crucks, set into walls
slightly above ground level, have extended collars which support through
purlins, and pegged saddles at apex supporting ridge piece. 4 large joist
holes in north gable wall may indicate a loft at this end, the southern ends
of the joists having rested on a beam since removed but which may be represented
by 2 sawn-off stubs in the appropriate position. Part of the Bearpark estate
of the Dean and Chapter of Durham.
