C16 origin, enlarged in C17 and circa 1857 when the main front range was built.
Front range has wide central entrance hall and one main room each side. Brick
walls with stone dressings and burnt header patterning, tiled roof, brick stacks.
Two storeys and attics. Central bay projects, under gable. Large four-centred
arched opening to recessed porch. Carved coats of arms in arch spandrils. Inner
door, with sidelights, under segmental arch. Ground floor has two 2-light stone
mullioned windows with double-hung sashes. First floor has two similar windows
and, in central bay, a small Gothic window with hoodmould. Internally, rooms
in this wing have good marble fireplaces and plaster cornices. Staircase has
cut string with spandril brackets and twisted balusters.
C16 rear block, now used as service rooms, has stone walls, tiled roof with stone
eaves courses, brick stacks. Two storeys and attics. Stone mullioned windows -
C19 replacements - on ground and first floors. Hipped dormer in attic. Lower
section west of this block, C17, has brick and stone walls and tiled roof with
parapets to gables, brick stack. Modern timber doors and windows.
Internally, the rear sections have two large open fireplaces, one with bread
oven, both part blocked. Deeply chamfered ceiling beams in two rooms.
