Lodge to Canford

Estate lodge cottage, associated with a gateway and a bridge across the
River Stour. c1860. Red brickwork in Flemish bond, plinth, brick dentil
eaves. Tile roof, hips and gables, hipped and gabled dormers, decorative
ridge tiles. Ornate cottage, with exaggerated features; one storey and
attic, irregular form, with a rich assortment of different windows, all
casements. The south-west elevation (facing the-drive) projects at the
south side, with chamfered corners containing small stone-framed openings;
there is a large bay (with patterned brickwork) below a gabled dormer; a
porch in the angle has timber-framing, with Gothic details. The north-east
elevation (facing the road) has a gable with half-timbered upper part
enclosing an oriel window, and at the west side a hipped dormer above a
plain window with a projecting tiled canopy. The south-west elevation
(facing the River) has a gable and a prominent attached chimney stack, with
ribbed flues and offsets.
