Bridge across the River Stour. C16. Ironstone and limestone. There are
eight round arches, the four in the middle being larger, each of four ribs
(the outer chamfered), and between them are substantial cutwaters, the
parapet, of later date, oversails the walls on rounded corbels, and the
moulding above the corbels is repeated round the cutwaters in different
form; the parapet provides refuges above the cutwaters, and at each end
splays outwards. Attached to the parapet in the middle of the bridge (north
side) is a cast iron plate, bearing the following:-
NOTICE - DORSET. Any person wilfully INJURING any part of this COUNTY
BRIDGE will be guilty of a FELONY and upon conviction liable to be
TRANSPORTED FOR LIFE - BY THE COURT - T FOOKS 7 & 8 Geo4 G30 S13.
