Parish Church. Chancel and nave, late C12. Rebuilding of chancel
south wall in C15, east wall in C19. Rebuilding of nave north wall in
C15, west tower in C15. South porch, C17, incorporating older
materials. Extensively restored in 1862. Rubblestone walls with free
stone dressings. Slate and stone slate roofs. Chancel, late C19
east wall, and window. North wall, traces of a blocked window, C12.
South wall, two partly restored C15 windows, each of two trefoiled
lights in a square head with moulded reveals and label. Nave, north
doorway, C17, blocked, has chamfered jambs and rounded head. South wall
has two much restored C15 two light windows with square heads and
labels. In the east end of the south wall is a square headed opening
to light the former rood loft, now blocked. West tower, C15, two stages
with a parapet. The west window is of 2 trefoiled lights with blind
spandrels in a square head. Bell chamber has a two light window in
each wall, similar to the west window. South porch, C17, outer archway
with jambs and pointed arch of two chamfered orders. Interior: chancel
arch, C12, has half round responds with moulded capitals and bases with
sput ornaments, pointed arch. Roofs: chancel is ceiled in plaster.
Nave has plain king post trusses, C19. Fittings: font, round bowl of
Purbeck stone with chamfered under edge and remains of fastenings for lid,
C13, stem modern. Stoup in nave by south doorway, recess with pointed
head and rounded bowl, the latter partly broken away.
