Farmhouse. Early C17, rebuilt and enlarged in early C18, squared rubble
walls and brick walls. Clay tile roof with slates and stone slates at
the eaves. Rendered and brick stacks at outer gables, and at inner
north gable. Original plan consisted of a main range and a small back
wing at south east. The C18 extension to north in brickwork of Flemish
bond with vitrified headers; this provided a new kitchen on the ground
floor, original part remodelled with a new staircase in a central
entrance hall. Porch added. Original elevation now: 2 storeys and
attics. 3 windows irregular fenestration, from north to south: sash
window with wood lintel over, (blocked doorway with cambered brick arch)
sashes with glazing bars, (gabled porch). French window, C20 with
sash over in a C17 stone frame with returned label over. C18 brick porch
right of centre, with gabled slate roof over and moulded stone kneelers.
Plank and muntin C20 door with fan light over. Interior: the roof is
carried on tie and collar beam, trusses. North extension of house:
plank door near adjoining wall, 2 light wood casement with glazing bars
to first floor. The farmhouse, dairy house, barn and cottages form a
close-knit farm group. (R.C.H.M. Dorset II, p.137 (7) Plan).
