House, north-east wing probably C15 origin, south-east wing and dining
room block early C17, alterations dated 1671, early drawing room,
probably C20 restoration and additions. C15 work probably for the
Hymerford family, early C17 work for Moleyns and 1671 work for Thomas
Chafe. Rubble walls with rubble and ashlar quoins, gable-ended stone
slated roofs with stone copings bearing finials and ashlar stacks.
Irregular plan. 2 storeys and attics, irregular fenestration. Most
windows are C17 with stone mullions of one to 4-lights and have
returned labels. The early C18 wing has sashes with glazing bars with
stone architraves bearing keystones under relieving arches. 2 storied
north-east porch has 4-centred moulded arch in square surround. Heavy
wooden plank door. Internal features: a number of C17 and C18 fireplaces;
C17 staircase in wood with turned balusters,moulded rails and strings;
C18 staircase with open, scrolled string and moulded newels; C17 round
headed arches with impost blocks and pendant keystones; C17 painted
ceiling depicting clouds, C18 wing has bolection moulded panelling and
fireplaces; some C17 glass; C17 mitred panelling and doors; brick
vaulted cellar, some plank and muntin partitions; plaster achievement of
arms date 1671; according to RCHM north-east wing has C15 roof with
curved and moulded braces under the collars and curved and foiled wind-
braces to the purlins.
