2/143 The Ruins
II
Folly. Probably early C19. Built of ashlar-faced stone in Gothic style
to represent the chancel and part of a transept of a church. Elevation
facing the Abbey (the "last" front) has a central raised gable with battlemented
parapet. This flanked by octagonal turrets with small pilasters at angles,
and conical caps. Large pointed arched opening in centre - no evidence of
tracery. Similar openings in other walls. In rather poor repair. RCHM.
Monument 6. (Dorset. Vol.III)
