Home for the Elderly, formerly the Vicarage. 1871-3 by George Devey.
Red brick with diaper patterns in blue brick, irregular plinth of
sarsen stone. Tiled roof, picturesque composition with many gables
moulded brick eaves. 2 storeys and attic, lst floor band. Entrance on N.
front, lean-to porch in recess with 2-light casement to LH, 3-light above.
Gable to RH has large projecting chimney stack with offsets and 2
diagonal shafts. Gable to LH has canted oriel to 1st floor, 2-light
casements to ground floor and attic. Lower service wing to LH,
altered. Garden (W) elevation has narrow gable to LH with dentil verge
small panel in tympanum, 4-light window with moulded head to 1st floor,
4-light transomed window to ground floor. Large chimney stack in centre,
now taken down to eaves level, square bay to RH with french window.
