SP 91 SW MARSWORTH GRAND UNION CANAL

6/104 Lock 45 and adjacent dry dock

GV II

Canal lock of c.1800, with dry dock, built as a narrow duplicate lock
1838-9 altered later C19. Brick retaining walls with stone coping.
Main lock has 2 pairs of gates with sluices and winding gear, the quoins
dated 1859 and 1864. Brick steps at W. end. One cast iron bollard,
one wooden bcllard. Pair of side ponds with winding gear dated 1865.
Dry dock has pair of gates at E. end and one cast iron bollard near
entrance. Covered by shed of brown brick with blue brick below openings,
and slate roof. Side to canal has blind window panels at each end and
6 louvred windows with segmental heads. W. end has central door,
flanking windows with semi-circular heads, and bank tablet in gable.
E. end has large opening with board doors.
