Mausoleum of the Duchess of Kent

1861. Begun during the life of the Duchess of Kent. Architect A J Humbert. Heavy late French neo-classical detail. Galleried, ribbed copper dome to Portland stone ashlar rotunda surrounded by pink granite colonnade with bronze Ionic capitals and bases. Bronze urns on entablature. Rusticated basement. Main approach, facing bridge over lake, has double flight of balustraded steps, heavy rustication to retaining wall with central niche and bust, returning to meet on terrace in front of heavily rusticated projecting portal to basement of rotunda. Heavy panelled round headed gun metal doors.
