Description

1.
5118 MANGOTSFIELD RURAL DIBDEN LANE
Dibden Farmhouse
ST 67 NE 2/178 26.3.76.
II
2.
Built 1660-62 probably for Philip Langley, or possibly for his successor
Robert Guest 1662. Tall 2 storey rubble building with pantile roof (victorian);
3 chimneys, the right hand one stone with stone capping. Three windows
on first floor, originally 4 on ground floor (one blocked), 2 and 3-light
Victorian casements with lintels and relieving arches, the right-hand ground
floor window has arched French windows to garden. Central Victorian gabled
porch with arched entrance, moulded door surround (only the lintel original
with ovolo moulding), studded door with Victorian glass let in. Traces
of C16 building to rear. 'L' plan with stair turret in angle. Disturbed
masonry on east gable wall presumably marks site of C17 oriel window referred
to in inventory of the time.
Interior: a number of original features, particularly chamfered door surrounds;
the kitchen door is studded with trefoil-ended strap-hinges. The ceilings
are noticibly high for the period. East room on ground floor has a slightly
cambered lintel to fireplace and shell-niche display cupboard to left.
First floor room has good contemporary fireplace with Tudor arch and fluted
frieze.
