Cemetery Chapels
Cemetery chapels. 1865, by Martin Bulmer, with 1920s addition
to rear. Snecked ragstone rubble, flint dressings; Kent tiles
and interlocking cement tile roof. High Victorian gothic style;
Early English and Decorated style details. 2 gabled chapels, 2
carriage arches, central spire. 2 storey central tower and spire
with gabled niche with single lancet to east and west, broaches
at angles, octagonal second stage, weathered stone courses,
octagonal bell chamber with quinquefoil headed arches with
colonnettes and gabled heads, spire with metal finial and vane.
2 flanking segmental arched carriage porches with coped gables.
Two almost identical gabled funerary chapels, one Anglican one
Nonconformist, with set-off angle buttresses kneelers and coped
gables. 3 light east and west windows with elaborate C14 style
Decorated flowing tracery. Carriage porches have chamfered
principals, boaded ceilings. Interiors of chapels not seen.
