Bridge and causeway. C15 and C19. Coursed rubble, some dark sandstone, some
limestone, upper part widened and rebuilt in red brick in 1874 (Bedfordshire
County Council Industrial Archaeology in Bedfordshire, 1967, p 14). 17
irregular pointed arches, spanning approximately 140 metres. Approximately 5
metres wide. SW side (upstream): brick work begins at springing point of
arches. Arches have corbelling with 2 rows of dentilation. Corbelling also
to base of parapet. Stone cutwaters. NE side: stone arches still visible,
only parapet is brick. Scheduled ancient monument.
