1875-76 by G Vialls. Simple and dignified early English style but with three
sided apsidal chancel. Exterior of Luton grey bricks with tiled roofs, crested
ridge tiles and stone finials. Plan of aisled nave with north and south porches,
and chancel with vestry to north and organ with chapel to south. Chancel
has deep moulded brick frieze to eaves; three triple lancet windows with plate
tracery; slightly pointed arches and continuous moulded brick drip mould.
Four bay nave. Both nave and aisles have moulded brick dentil frieze to
eaves. Nave has two clerestory lancet windows to each bay with brick drip
moulds. Aisles have smaller lancets in stone surrounds with buttresses dividing
the bays. The apex of the gables of the south and north porches are divided
up into squares by moulded brick bands. Very plain moulded doorways. Recessed
double doors with stone trumeau and quatrefoil decoration in the tympana.
West end has five lancet windows with quatrefoil in gable. Small brick belfry
with two bells and surmounted by stone cross. Interior walls of light red
brick. Nave arcades on stone pillars with foliated capitals. Clerestorey
windows have dentil frieze above and basketwork frieze below. Roof trusses
spring from foliated corbels. Arch braced roofs to aisles. Banded red and
grey brick to chancel.
