adjacent to Lion Lodge

Gatepier, forming a pair with item 8/143 approximately 10 metres to N.
Lower part thought to be mid C18, upper part late C18. Ashlar pier,
surmounted by Coade stone statue. Approximately 3 metres total height.
Substantial rectangular pier, lower two-thirds with vermiculated rustication.
Upper third of pier formed by entablature, with Greek key band to architrave,
carved swags to W and E sides of frieze, paterae to N and S sides of frieze,
and moulded cornice. Surmounting statue depicts recumbent lion, facing N
towards road and other pier.
