Bedford Estate cottage. Circa 1830 by Edward Blore for John, 6th Duke of
Bedford, in Jacobethan style. Red brick with some dressings in render and
some in ashlar. Clay tile roof with some decorative tiles, 2-room plan
with symmetrical front elevation. One storey and attics. Central 2-
storeyed gabled porch. 4-centred arch with moulded surround under moulded
label. 6-panel 4-centred arched door. Moulded string course at first floor
level surmounted by 2-light window. Above this is recessed panel with 'B'
surmounted by coronet. Main block has 2 2-light windows to each floor, attic
ones breaking through eaves line into gabled dormers. All windows are
casements with narrow mullions (also transoms to ground floor ones) under
moulded labels, and have octagonal leading. All gables stone coped with
kneelers and finials. Integral gable end stacks with paired octagonal
shafts, with moulded bases and caps. Short sections of screen wall link
front elevation to single storey gabled outhouses.
