Railway tunnel & cutting. c1836-7. Tunnel entrance of Old Line
with stone jambs carrying C20 steel girder. Tunnel walls of
stock brick with closely spaced shallow buttresses with stone
caps, carried up to form piers for good cast-iron railings
with arcaded motif. Former segmental cast-iron struts spanning
cutting between piers cut back to base plate. Similar
revetment north-east of tunnel. North-west of tunnel railings
and piers added c1900-6 to match older work when the New Line
was built.
