Drinking fountain. Dated 1877 on plaque. Manufactured by
Andrew Handyside and Co of Derby for William Thornton, a
senior Church Warden who presented it to the church. Painted
cast-iron. Drum with moulded base and cornice, on circular
stone base with block steps, supports a rotunda of 5 fluted
columns with acanthus capitals surmounted by an entablature
with masks on the frieze and projecting cornice to shallow
dome with acanthus leaf vase and putto having an urn on its
shoulder. The design is based on the Choragic monument of
Lysicrates in Athens.
