C19. Stucco, Nos 23 and 25 with rusticated ground floors. 4
storeys and cellars. 3 windows each. No.21, mid C19 shopfront
with pilasters carrying entablature with projecting cornice.
Shop windows altered. Square-headed doorways to Nos 23 and 25,
No.23, architraved doorway, currently boarded up, No.25,
panelled door and overlight. Architraved, recessed sash
windows, 1st floor with cornices. No.25 3rd floor windows,
recessed sashes with segmental arches. Nos 21 and 23, cornice
and blocking course. No.25, cut-back cornice flanked by
consoles at 3rd floor level; parapet.
INTERIORS: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached cast-iron railings to No.25
area.
HISTORICAL NOTE: No.23 was the home of John Howard, prison
reformer (GLC plaque).
