Abernethy House

Semi-detached house, built as a parochial school for girls.
c1819. Yellow stock brick. Slated roof with dormers. 2 storeys
and attics. Double fronted with 3 windows. Central entrance
with wooden doorcase of fluted pilasters carrying entablature
with modillion cornice; overlight and panelled door. Segmental
gauged brick arches to recessed sashes. Return to Holly Walk
with round-arched windows. INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: by 1873 it had become a lodging house when
Robert Louis Stevenson paid the first of several visits for
his health.
