Stone gateway in grounds of
University College behind No.17

Stone gateway set in screen wall to 1932 extensions facing
rear of No.17 Gordon Square (qv). Dated 1668 on base of the
piers and 1669 on impost. Channelled stone round-headed
archway with stone cornice. Foliated impost blocks giving
appearance of capitals. Weathered cartouche on keystone.
Plaque on wall to rear says it was formerly the entrance to
Pewterers' Hall, Lime Street, EC1, and installed here in
November 1932.
