Wrongly shown on OS map as Bridgefoot Farm. House. C16, altered in C17 and
C18. Plastered brick, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Main range facing
SE, with an internal stack at each end. Service range to rear of left end, with
one axial stack. Lean-to extension in rear right angle, roofed with slate,
forming a catslide with the main roof. 2 storeys and attics. 4-window range of
late C19 sashes of 4 lights, and 2 C19 casements in gabled dormers. Central
6-panel door, the top 2 glazed, the others fielded, with moulded architrave and
flat canopy on scrolled brackets, all early C19; early C16 spiral-leaf carving
is incorporated in the doorcase. Dogtooth eaves course. In rear angle, 2 C19
horizontal sashes of 16 lights. In the right ground-floor room is a richly
moulded transverse beam with spiral-leaf carving, and richly moulded joists of
horizontal section, early to mid C16; also a carved and moulded mantel beam,
mutilated, probably of the same period. The transverse beam in the left
ground-floor room is boxed in, but of smaller scantling, and the joists are
plastered to the soffits. In the left first-floor room the transverse beam has
a roll-moulding. Joggled butt-purlin roof, apparently C17. In the service
range the axial beam is moulded, but possibly re-set; moulded joists from a
jettied building are re-set with the plain ends towards the beam. The walls are
of exceptional thickness, varying from 450 to 600 mm; the exterior was plastered
in 1983. An inlet of the sea formerly extended to Ramsey village; the bricks
were probably delivered by sea. RCHM 4.
