Tess' Cottage

Cottage, of more than one build, probably early and late C17. Coursed
rubble walls, thatched roof, half-hipped left and hipped right. Brick
stacks to left of door and at end of ridge right. l½ storeys,
irregular fenestration. Variety of windows: ground floor left are
restored, 2-light with stone mullions; some C17 timber mullioned windows;
1, 2 and 3-light casements, some with glazing bars and some with leaded-
lights. Various blocked doors and openings. Internal features: deep
stop-chamfered ceiling beams; beaded plank and muntin partitions with
some original doors; fireplaces with chamfered jambs and bressummers;
ceiling with intersecting beams and wall-plates. Original plan is
difficult to determine; may have been two tenements and possibly had
a cross-passage.
